To upgrade to Odoo 20, your database must pass through every major version between your current one and 20, and every custom module must be rewritten for Odoo 20's APIs. What's new in Odoo 20
Odoo 20 AI agents can create and update records, read files you give them and connect to your database over MCP. Note that AI features consume IAP credits.
Users can create, edit, archive and delete records without a connection, then sync when they are back online.
Parent accounts replace account groups, account codes become optional, and depreciation models replace asset models.
Filter the chatter by conversations or tracked changes, pin messages, send emails with CC and schedule richer meeting activities.

What breaks
_sql_constraints is goneOdoo 20 no longer reads _sql_constraints or _constraints. Un-ported modules install, but their unique and check constraints silently disappear. We rewrite them as models.Constraint objects.
Reports, custom journals and integrations that rely on account groups or mandatory account codes need remapping to parent accounts.
Custom asset logic and reports must follow the move from asset models to depreciation models.
From Odoo 17 you also inherit Odoo 18 (tree → list) and Odoo 19 (new constraint and ORM APIs) changes. We handle every hop in one run.

Odoo 20 was released at Odoo Experience in Brussels in September 2026. It is now the newest major version and Odoo maintains it alongside Odoo 19 and Odoo 18.
If you are on Odoo 17 or older, upgrade now: those versions no longer receive bug and security fixes from Odoo. If you are on Odoo 18 or 19, plan the move within your next budget cycle and use the free assessment to see the effort first.
