What “end of support” means in practice
- No security patches. Vulnerabilities found after end of support stay open.
- No bug fixes. Issues in standard modules are no longer corrected.
- Shrinking app ecosystem. App Store vendors stop publishing for old versions.
- Harder upgrades. Every year adds another version hop and another set of breaking changes.
How to plan
- Map your path. Each major version is a hop; see the version paths.
- Inventory custom modules. They drive most of the effort and cost.
- Upgrade a copy first. Never upgrade production directly. Test on a neutralised copy.
TechUltra Upgrades runs every hop automatically on a copy of your database, so even a multi-version jump is one project.
FAQ
When will Odoo 18 reach end of support?
When Odoo 21 is released, expected around Odoo Experience 2027, following the three-version policy.
Can I keep running an unsupported Odoo version?
Technically yes, but you lose security patches and bug fixes, Odoo's upgrade service gets harder, and new App Store modules won't be published for your version.
