Odoo 20 was unveiled at Odoo Experience 2026 in Brussels. It’s less about adding features and more about letting the software act on its own: AI agents that do work instead of just suggesting it.
Headline features
AI agents that create and update records
AI agents in Odoo 20 can create and update records, take files as input and connect to a database over MCP (Model Context Protocol). That opens the door to agents that read a supplier PDF and draft the bill, or that triage a helpdesk queue. Note that AI features now consume IAP credits, so budget for usage.
Offline mode
Users can create, edit, archive, unarchive and delete records without a connection. This matters for field service, warehouses with poor coverage and sales teams on the road.
A new accounting model
- Parent accounts replace account groups
- Account codes become optional
- Depreciation models replace asset models
These are welcome simplifications, but they’re also the most likely to affect custom financial reports and integrations.
Everyday productivity
Easier activity scheduling, richer meeting activities, a filterable chatter (conversations vs tracked changes), pinned messages and CC on emails.
What breaks for custom modules
| Change | Impact |
|---|---|
_sql_constraints and _constraints no longer supported |
Constraints in un-ported modules silently disappear; they must be rewritten as models.Constraint |
| Account groups → parent accounts | Custom reports and BI queries that group by account group need remapping |
| Asset models → depreciation models | Custom asset logic and reports must be updated |
If you’re coming from Odoo 17 or earlier, you also cross the Odoo 18 <tree> → <list> rename and the Odoo 19 constraint and ORM changes. See your version path.
Should you upgrade now?
- On Odoo 17 or older: yes. Odoo maintains only the three most recent versions (18, 19, 20), so you’re no longer getting security fixes.
- On Odoo 18: plan it within the next year. You’re supported until Odoo 21 ships.
- On Odoo 19: upgrade when a specific Odoo 20 feature pays for itself, such as AI agents or offline mode.

FAQ
Is Odoo 20 stable enough for production?
For most businesses, yes. Odoo ships major versions after extensive internal and partner testing. We recommend upgrading a copy first and running your critical flows (invoicing, stock, payroll) before cutting over.
Does Odoo 20 require new hardware?
Usually not, but check your PostgreSQL and Python versions. Odoo raises minimum versions periodically, and self-hosted servers often need a runtime upgrade alongside the database.
